Often times we want to store items in our scrapbooks, yet we don't want to glue the item down on the page, and we don't want the small page protectors bought in the store.

The solution is simple. Make your own storage envelopes for your scrapbook pages. These envelopes can range from very simple to very detailed.

Here are a couple of suggestions on how to make envelopes:

1. Take an envelope in your home. Choose any size, large or small. Unfold the envelope and lay it out on your paper. Choose a paper that will coordinate with the scrapbook pages you are creating. Trace the open envelope. Cut out the shape and fold into an envelope. You may need to score the fold lines with a ruler or other straight edge tool. You now have an envelope the exact size of the one you unfolded.

2. Coluzzle makes both an envelope template and a library card template. Both templates come in many sizes. You trace the template on the paper of your choice with an exacto blade, cut out and then fold into an envelope. This technique can allow you to have a few envelopes of the same pattern, but in very different sizes.

3. Take the sheet of paper you wish to use for your "envelope". Cut that sheet of paper in half diagonally. Match the straight edge of your envelope with the straight edge of the bottom of your scrapbook page. Attach the envelope at the three points. You now have an "envelope" right on the page that you can put items into. I almost always use cardstock for this technique, as cardstock is stronger and will hold up better on the page.

All of these styles of envelopes can be decorated with embellishments, stickers or rubber stamps. These envelopes make great additions to your scrapbook pages.

Creative Memories: Anybody know the cost of Shipping & Handling?

I am looking into buying some creative memories thing's but They haven't told me yet how much the shipping & handling cost will be and it doesn't say on there website. If you have bought items from Creative Memories Scrapbooking please let me know (only if you know) what the possibly shipping and handling might be and if there might be a website link to them. Thank you very much. Or if they even charge Shipping & Handling.

I buy thru my local consultant- that way there are no postage fees. However, try their contact page on the website, and email them about details...don't feorget to add your postcode/ zip code. I contacted them thru their website, then they had their consultant call me back...as it turns out, she lives less than 3 km from me and we're in a rural area. She doesn't add money onto the price (as they shouldn't), orders products in for me (it takes 3 days max)...goood luck! It's a great hobb y!!

500 Scrapbooking Sketches For Your Creative Scrapbooking Layout

I have always been a proponent of cheap scrapbooking. I mean, I totally love using new products and I’ll admit to spending into the double digits for some scrapbooking pages. But I love being frugal too and I like the creativity that can come from not having a ton to spend on scrapbooking supplies. So what are some of the ways that you can keep your money in the bank and still make great layouts? Here are some of my suggestions to be “cheap” without looking like it:

1.) Look around the house. You would be surprised what “scrapbooking” supplies you can find. I have used many household supplies or products including: paperclips, craft paint (not only can you use it to accent a page, but you can use it the same way you use stamp ink), old envelopes and used stamps (great for destination/travel pages), old/broken jewelry (use as embellishments), shopping/clothing/market tags (you can paint over, dye, or cover them), wrapping paper, gift ribbon, hair ribbons or rubber bands, game pieces, old maps, book pages (as backgrounds), cereal/shoe boxes (for chipboard) and much more. Just be careful that these items are acid free or at least if they are not, won’t be touching any of your photos.

2.) Go digital - or at least a little bit. There are many sites out there that offer freebies every week or so. I have stated loading up on these free downloads. Not only can you use them to do digital scrapbooking layouts, but I take parts of them and print them off to use on my regular scrapbooking layouts. And the great things about these is that you can print them again and again for different pages. Check out http://www.scrapgirls.com and http://www.digitalfreebies.com for some freebies.

3.) Have a scrapbooking supply swap. The next time you want to get together to scrapbook, just tell everyone that you will be having a “swap” table where people can bring supplies they don’t use any more or don’t want. You could also make it a sale too if someone wants to sell something they have. The last time I did this kind of “swap” I ended up going home with a ton of papers and stickers that others didn’t want.

Scrapbooking may not be the cheapest hobby out there, but it needn’t be expensive. I am sure there are lots of other ways that each individual can make it even more affordable. If you have any more ideas for making scrapbooking cheaper, let me know your great discoveries.

Scrapbooking is a very popular hobby. There is an entire industry dedicated to supplies and tools just for scrapbooking. The possibilities are seemingly without end. Scrapbooking is a great way to creatively display and preserve your photos and memorabilia.

I love to share my scrapbooks with friends and family. Many comment that they would love to create scrapbooks to show off their photos, but they don't know how to begin. They are too worried about having to be the creative type.

Let me share with you the 7 simple steps that I use in creating my scrapbook page layouts. These simple steps are easy to learn and can be adapted to suit your own style of scrapbooking.

1. Choose your Photos – Decide which photos you want to use on that page. As a general rule three to five photos will usually work on a 12 X 12 scrapbook page layout. If you are using a smaller album you will need to adjust this. You may also choose to only include one or two photos if they are larger, you don't want to crop at all, or you want lots of space around them.
2. Decide on page layout – Plan where to place photos, journaling and page title. The page should feel balanced and pleasing to the eye. If you want some help deciding how to lay out the elements of the page, consider using scrapbook page sketches. These are great blueprints to base your pages on.
3. Choose coordinating papers and embellishments – A great tip for choosing your papers and embellishments is to pull some colors from the photos. Also consider the the subject of the photos. Choose colors that match the feel or mood of the photos. Cool blues might compliment photos of winter better than a sunny yellow. Theme papers are available for many events and holidays. Make sure you use acid free products.
4. Crop and mat photos – Decide which if any photos you want to crop. Remember that sometimes less is more when it comes to cropping. Crop out distractions, but keep some historical and place references.
5. Adhere Photos – Double check your layout, and adhere your photos to the page. Make sure you use acid free adhesives.
6. Add page title and journaling – Decide on a page title (every page doesn't absolutely need a title). The page title lets us know what the page is about. If you have a difficult time thinking of a title, don't worry. There are many resources for finding a title. Write a draft of your journaling on a piece of scrap paper first. When you are happy with it, transfer it to your page or journaling box.
7. Add Embellishments - Embellishments should compliment the page not overpower the pictures. For this reason I add them last. That being said, they can really add some spice and visual appeal to your scrapbook page layout.

Remember you can adapt these steps to fit your style and the type of scrapbook album you are creating. Scrapbooking is a very individual hobby. Use these steps as a guide and have fun!

How do you make a pop up page in a scrapbook?

I am making a scrapbook for my son. I am working on a family tree page. It would be awsome to make it a pop up page in my opinion. I thought a big tree pop up with the pictures under it. I just dont know how to go about doing it. I can't seem to find anything very helpful on the web. Thanks for all your serious responses.
